木次駅で乗り換えたその列車は、『奥出雲おろち号』です。
The next train is “Oku-Izumo Orochi.”

「奥出雲おろち号」はトロッコ観光列車で、春から秋にかけての休日と夏休み期間に、木次駅と備後落合駅の間を1日1往復しています。
“Oku-Izumo Orochi” is a sightseeing train. It is seasonal train from spring to autumn, and it is one service a day between Kisuki and Bingo-Ochiai station on weekends and during the summer holidays.

列車はディーゼル機関車1両と客車2両で構成されていて、客車のうち1両は窓がないトロッコ車両です。トロッコ車両には運転台がついていてプッシュプル運転をします。備後落合行きの時には機関車ではなくトロッコ車両が先頭になります。
The train consists of a one diesel locomotive and two coaches. The one of the two coaches is windowless. The windowless coach has a simple cab for shuttle operation. The head of the train is the windowless coach not the locomotive when the train travels for Bingo-Ochiai.

列車名の「おろち」とは神話にも登場する大蛇（竜）のことです。列車全体を大蛇がとぐろを巻いているようなラインが覆っています。
“Orochi” means the huge snake (oriental dragon) in Japanese legend. Izumo area (a part of Shimane prefecture) is the motherland of the legend. Many curved lines are drawn on the train body. It is like coiling “Orochi” around the train body.

木次駅のホームには神話にちなんだプレートが設置されています。
There is a stone monument of the dragon legend at the platform .

またトイレの入口にも神話の世界が描かれていました。
The scene of the legend and the sights of Izumo are drawn on the entrance of a toilet.

乗り込んで車内を見てみましょう。
先頭のトロッコ車両は窓がありません。椅子とテーブルは木製で天井にはランプが吊されています。
Welcome aboard the “Oku-Izumo Orochi.”
There are no windows in the first coach from the front of the train. Seats and tables are made in wood, and lanterns are suspended from the ceiling.

2両目の客車は普通の座席車両です。天気が悪い時や寒い時にはこちらの車両に移ることができるようになっています。トイレもついてます。
「奥出雲おろち号」は普通列車（通過する駅はない）ですが、全席座席指定の列車です。事前に指定券を購入していないと乗車できません。しかし地元の方が利用する際には、普通運賃でこちらの座席車両の空いている席を利用することができるようになっているようです。
The second coach is a nomal car. If it is a rain or cold day, we can move to the nomal seat in this coach from the windowless car. There is a lavatory in the car, too.
“Oku-Izumo Orochi” is a local train (stops at all stations), but all seats are reserve seat. We need to pay a special reservation fee before riding. But when the locals take this train, it is not necessary to pay the special fee only in this car.

観光案内やイラストなども展示されています。
There are some informations about sightseeing and illustrations on the wall.

島根県の景観賞を受賞したようで賞状も置いてありました。
The train was awarded the scenery prize by Shimane prefecture. There is the testimonial on the wall, too.

最後尾の機関車には大きなヘッドマークが掲げられています。
かっこいいですね。
The last car of this train is the locomotive. The head mark of the train is put up on the face of the locaomotive.
It is cool.

乗ってきた普通列車と「おろち号」は同一ホームで乗り換えられるようになっているので、後に普通列車が止まっています。
The local train that I got off has been standing in front of the locomotive. We can change from the local train to “Oku-Izumo Orochi” at the same platform.

そろそろ出発時刻です。
おろち号で神話の世界へと旅します。
It is departure time.
